The Royale is Kelly & Windsor's most premium pure alpaca quilt. The key differences are the casing and the fibre processing. The alpaca filling is SuperLoft processed for exceptional loft and softness. The Gold uses a superfine cotton sateen with gold satin binding. Yes, pure alpaca is one of the best natural fibres for allergy sufferers. The Royale is filled with pure alpaca, naturally non-allergenic and free from lanolin. It is gentle on sensitive skin and well suited to those with allergies or asthma.
What is TENCEL™ sateen and why does it matter? +
TENCEL™ is a premium fibre made from sustainably sourced wood pulp, known for its silky softness, natural breathability and moisture management. In a sateen weave at 350 thread count, it creates a casing that is noticeably smoother and cooler against the skin than standard cotton sateen, complementing the softness of the pure alpaca fill inside.
How warm is each Alpaca Royale weight? +
The Royale comes in four weights. The 200gsm Summer is the lightest, for warm sleepers and hot nights. The 300gsm All Year suits most of the year in temperate homes. The 400gsm All Year Plus adds warmth for cooler months thanks to a two-layer construction that creates a natural air pocket for extra warmth without heaviness. The 500gsm Winter delivers deep enveloping warmth for cold nights. The warmth guide beside the selector helps you choose.
What is the difference between a quilt, a doona and a duvet? +
A quilt, a doona and a duvet are the same thing — a fibre-filled bed covering. Doona is the common Australian term, duvet is used in Europe and the UK, and comforter in North America.
