Alex, the baby Australian Alpaca Quilt is coming soon
Welcome Alex, the Australian baby alpaca to the Kelly & Windsor collection.
As some would know, we have been working on the launch of a range of Baby Alpaca bedding accessories for young children and kids for some time. This program has actually been in progress for five years but despite a significant interest for our customers, within Australian and especially international markets, we just never quite go into it.
For years now we have had the brand, its logo, Alex cartoon character, the child's toy and even specially printed quilt trim ready to go.
In October 2018 a key export customer called me and asked "when are you bloody well going to launch the baby range?" After thinking about how to explain another delay and being a bit embarrassed, I replied with a touch of humor, "when I get an order" The customer promptly confirmed the first order, so off we go.
In 2014 during product design and testing we acquired the global design rights to a cute alpaca toy. We chose the name Alex, which was short, easy for a child to adopt and could be of either gender. We also thought that a animated version of a cute alpaca might add to the Baby Alpaca brand so I contacted a very talented animator from North America who quickly created Alex. Easy. The next problem was to produce Alex in quantity for sales of the baby alpaca quilts. I immediately thought that our skilled sewing staff could make them up from our design pattern. I was very wrong, my sewing staff are great at making Australia's finest quilts but they cant make toys! After a lot of searching we finally out sourced the job to a specialized Chinese toy manufacturer, not because of cost but simply to get a good quality toy!
We will post News updates in a few weeks when we are a bit closer to the product launch but in the meantime a sneak look -
