Alpaca fleece in Australia

The Australian Alpaca Fleece company is owned by the alpaca growers and controls most of the alpaca fleece clip in Australia which is currently approximately sixty five tonnes and is projected to climb to over one hundred tonnes by 2009.

After shearing, the alpaca fleece is sent to the Australian Alpaca Fleece company where it is classed by quality, micron, colour and then washed to remove grass and vegetable matter. The fleece is not carbonized with harsh chemicals as alpaca fleece does not contain lanolin like sheep. The alpaca fleece is then sold to the licenced strategic partners for yarn spinning, knitting weaving and other manufacturers of alpaca products. Kelly & Windsor Australia has had the licence with the Australian Alpaca Fleece company for the manufacture of bedding products for over five years. In this time our unique combination of leading technical, process and design expertise in new innovations has established Kelly & Windsor as world leaders in the creation of luxurious alpaca bedding.
